Debugger

Use this page to configure the behavior of the Debugger and customize its view.

Common options

Item

Description

Show debug window on breakpoint

If this checkbox is selected, GoLand activates the Debug tool window on hitting a breakpoint.

Focus application on breakpoint

If this checkbox is selected, on hitting a breakpoint, GoLand will show the location of this breakpoint in the editor and will attempt to bring its frame to the front.

Hide debug window on process termination

Automatically hide the Debug tool window when the debugged program terminates.

Scroll execution point to center

If this checkbox is selected, the line with the current execution point will be kept in the middle of the screen.

Click line number to perform run to cursor

If this checkbox is selected, you can click a line number in the editor to run program execution to this line.

Remove breakpoint

Select how you want to remove breakpoints:

  • By clicking them with the left mouse button

  • By dragging them to the editor or clicking them with the middle mouse button. In this case, clicking a breakpoint will toggle its state between enabled and disabled.

You can also choose whether you want a confirmation dialog to be displayed when you are about to remove a conditional or a logging breakpoint

Go

Configure Delve, the Go debugger.

Item

Description

Stack Depth

Sets the number of stack frames that GoLand requests from Delve. The default is 50.

Goroutines Limit

Sets the maximum number of goroutines that GoLand reads from Delve when it populates the list of goroutines. The default is 10,000. When it reaches this limit, GoLand stops reading and displays the Only first N goroutines are shown warning, where N is the configured limit. The list can contain more goroutines than the limit because GoLand reads them in batches.

Rebuild transitive packages

Selected by default. With Go 1.9, adds -a to debug builds to force rebuilding packages, including cached dependencies.

With Go 1.10 and later, debug builds use -gcflags all=-N -l to disable optimizations and inlining for all packages, regardless of this checkbox.

When this checkbox is selected, GoLand also removes -i from Go tool arguments for debug runs with Go 1.9 and later.

Configure Delve debugging settings

Cleared by default. Select this checkbox to edit the four fields below. Clearing the checkbox immediately resets their values to the defaults. The default limits still apply when the checkbox is cleared.

Maximum number of fields to read from a struct (-1 to read all fields)

Sets the number of fields that Delve reads from a struct. The default is -1, which reads all fields.

Maximum number of bytes to read from a string

Sets the number of bytes that Delve reads from each string. The default is 1,024. If a string is longer, the debugger shows a truncated value. Use the link in the variable node to load the complete string.

Maximum number of bytes to read from a string for function call results

Sets the number of bytes that Delve reads from a string returned by a function call in the debugger. The default is 4,096. You cannot expand a function call result beyond this limit.

Maximum number of elements to read from an array, slice, or map

Sets the number of elements that Delve reads from each array, slice, or map. The default is 100.

To configure integer formats and variable display options, refer to Data Views settings.
