GoLand 2026.3 Help

Customize views

Choose how variable values appear in the Debug tool window and the editor.

Customize data view

GoLand allows you to configure which information about the variables you want to get.

Unless explicitly specified, these preferences apply to all the places where the variable values are displayed (the Variables tab, inline values view, tooltips, and so on).

Show/hide object types

Show or hide the types next to variable values.

  • Right-click anywhere in the Variables tab and turn Show types on or off.

Change the format of an integer value

  1. Right-click an integer value in the Variables pane and select View as.

  2. Select Binary, Decimal, or Hex.

This changes the selected value's display format. To change the default for integers, use Default integer format in Settings | Build, Execution, Deployment | Debugger | Data Views. If Go appears as a separate settings page under Data Views, open it.

Configure display of specific types

You can fine-tune how particular types are displayed.

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+S to open settings and then select Build, Execution, Deployment | Debugger | Data Views.

  2. Configure the options in the Go section.

Item

Description

Default integer format

Set the default numbering system for integers: Binary, Decimal, or Hex. The default is Decimal.

Show types

Selected by default. Display types of variables. For more information, refer to Show/hide object types.

Show pointer addresses

Selected by default. Display pointer addresses.

Enable String() view

Cleared by default. Select this checkbox to let the debugger call a presentation method, such as String() or Error(), when it cannot format the value without executing the method. The debugger also supports debugString() and DebugString().

Calling a method can change program state. If the call fails, the debugger uses the value returned by Delve.

The following formatting works even when this checkbox is cleared:

  • Built-in formatting for time.Duration, time.Time, net.IP, net.IPMask, net.IPNet, and net/http.Request.

  • Formatting based on supported presentation methods that return a constant, a field value, or a supported fmt.Sprintf() expression, without executing the method.

If a debugString() or DebugString() value contains (unsupported format), check the fmt.Sprintf() format string: the debugger cannot emulate width, precision, or argument indexes. If it contains (cannot format value), the debugger could not format an argument value.

For more information about current limitations, refer to the Delve documentation on the call command.

Show unreadable variables

Selected by default. Clear this checkbox to hide local variables and function arguments in the Variables view when Delve cannot read their values. This changes only their visibility, not the requests sent to Delve.

You can also toggle Show Unreadable Variables in the Debug tool window settings menu or the Variables context menu.
