Bring your own key (BYOK)

AI Assistant supports the Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) approach, which allows you to provide an API key from a supported AI provider and use the provider's models in AI Assistant. This setup allows you to work in AI Chat and use supported agents with the provider's models without having a JetBrains AI service subscription.

You can enter your API key after installing the AI Assistant plugin:

1. Open the AI Chat tool window.

2. Click Use API Key or Local Models.

   

3. Select the Provider, enter your Key, and click Continue.

   

After completing these steps, you can start using AI Assistant with your preferred AI provider. To verify that the selected provider is active, click the JetBrains AI widget in the window header toolbar.
