# Disable Two-factor Authentication

Users can enable two-factor authentication by pairing their Hub account with an authentication app. YouTrack provides recovery codes that can be used as one-time passwords to access the application. If a user doesn't have the recovery codes and no longer has access to the authentication app that is paired with the Hub account, he or she is unable to log in.

* As an administrator with the Low-level Admin Read and Update User permissions, you can restore access by disabling this feature in the user's profile. The Low-level Admin Read permission lets you access the Account Security tab in another user's profile, while the Update User permission lets you disable two-factor authentication.

* If you are the default administrator for the installation and have lost access to your second factor for authentication, you can restore access by resetting your account. For instructions, see [Manage or Restore the Default Administrator Account](changing-or-restoring-password-and-permissions-for-root.html).

> **Note: Working with an External Hub Service**
> In YouTrack installations that are connected to an external Hub service, personal information and access rights for YouTrack user accounts are managed directly in Hub. The YouTrack profile contains a link to the Hub account which you can use to update personal information and manage logins for the YouTrack user account.
