JetBrains Air in IDEs
JetBrains Air in IDEs is a plugin for agentic development. It gives you one place to start coding agents, follow what they are doing, and review the changes they make. JetBrains Air in IDEs is not an AI service of its own: agents come either from your local installations or from the agent registry, and they keep the configurations, provider accounts, and subscriptions they already use. Key capabilities include:
Coding agents in the IDE – run the agents that are already installed on your machine, such as Codex or Junie, or install ACP-compatible agents from the agent registry. An agent plans the work, edits files, and runs commands, while you keep, edit, or revert what it produces.
Agent sessions as units of work – start a session from the agent widget, the Agent Sessions tool window, or the global prompt. Run several sessions in parallel and track their progress, changed files, commits, and cost.
Context from the IDE – attach files, commits, screenshots, and reusable skills to a request. Agents get project information from the IDE instead of exploring the project step by step, which can reduce the number of tokens a task consumes.
Review of agent changes – summarize what a session changed, send your local changes to an agent for review, leave notes on the lines of a diff, and resolve merge conflicts with an agent.
Flexible authorization – depending on the agent and your setup, authorize an agent with the login that it manages itself, with JetBrains AI, or with a third-party AI provider that you configure in JetBrains Air in IDEs. A JetBrains AI subscription is supported but not required.
Presets for different tasks – save an agent, model, effort, and access level as a named preset and reuse it instead of reconfiguring a session for each task.
and much more.
Agent sessions run in the same environment as the rest of your work, so you can keep using code insight, refactorings, the debugger, and version control on the code an agent produces. JetBrains Air in IDEs does not enable AI features automatically, and it requires no login until you start an agent.
The JetBrains Air in IDEs plugin is compatible with JetBrains Rider and other IntelliJ-based IDEs starting from version 2026.2. It is a separate plugin and does not replace or disable AI Assistant. Learn more in the official JetBrains Air in IDEs documentation.
