# AI providers

> For the complete documentation index, see [llms.txt](https://www.jetbrains.com.cn/en-us/help/jetbrains-console/main/llms.txt).

> **Note:**
> This feature is currently in preview and available for all organizations participating in the [Early Access Program (EAP)](ai-settings.html#eap). It may change and become a paid feature later. For more information, see [Plans and pricing](plans-and-pricing.html).

The AI providers page lets you configure connections to external AI providers using the Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) approach and define which models are available for use across your organization. By default, only [JetBrains AI](ai-providers-jetbrains-ai.html) is available.

You can add the following BYOK providers to your organization:

* [OpenAI](ai-providers-openai.html)

* [Google Vertex AI](ai-providers-vertex-ai.html)

* [Anthropic](ai-providers-anthropic.html)

* [Amazon Bedrock](ai-providers-amazon-bedrock.html)

To provide users and service accounts with access to the configured provider's models, you need to specify it in an [AI policy](ai-policies-configure.html#provider).

> **Note:**
> Viewing the page requires the [View AI settings](roles.html#permissions_view_ai_settings) permission. Managing BYOK providers requires the [Manage AI settings](roles.html#permissions_manage_ai_settings) or [Manage organization](roles.html#permissions_manage_org) permission.

## Add a provider

The general flow for adding a provider is the same across providers. For prerequisites and configuration instructions, refer to the [corresponding topic](#byok-providers).

Procedure:

1. In the sidebar, under AI governance, select Providers.

If you don't see this page, or the controls on this page are inactive, your role doesn't have the necessary [permissions](roles.html#permissions).

2. Click Add provider and select the required provider.

3. In the provider card, specify the connection details.

4. Click Connect.

JetBrains Central Console first saves the provider and then tests the connection to it.

If the test fails, the provider is still saved. The Error status appears next to the provider's name, and the provider card stays open for editing and displays an error message that you can expand to view the details. Correct the configuration and click Connect again to update the provider.

If the test passes, the configuration form is closed and a success message is displayed in the lower-right corner. The available models appear in the provider card.

To change the configuration of a saved provider, click ![Ellipsis icon](images/union.svg) in the provider card and select Edit credentials. Saving the changes works the same way as adding a provider.

Model availability may depend on factors such as your subscription or tier with the external provider, the models available in your account with the external provider, regional restrictions imposed by the provider, or other factors. You can add or remove models from the list to control access to them. For details, refer to [Managing models](ai-providers-manage-models.html).

## Test connection to a provider

You can test the connection to verify that the provider configuration is valid. The test runs automatically when you add a new provider or change the existing configuration.

If the configured BYOK provider stops responding, you can run the test manually, as the issue may be related to authentication. For example, it can be an expired API key or configuration changes made on the provider's side.

> **Tip:**
> The connection test verifies the provider's credentials and checks that the provider is reachable. It doesn't send any requests to models. To learn how to check if a specific model is reachable and responds to requests, see [Check model connectivity](ai-providers-manage-models.html#check-model-connectivity).

Procedure:

1. In the sidebar, under AI governance, select Providers.

If you don't see this page, or the controls on this page are inactive, your role doesn't have the necessary [permissions](roles.html#permissions).

2. In the upper right corner of the provider card, click Test connection.

If the test fails, the Error status appears next to the provider's name. To check what went wrong, expand the error message in the provider card. It shows the error details returned by the provider, or a general message if the provider returned no details.

If the test passes, you see a success message in the lower-right corner, and the Error status from the previous connection test, if any, disappears.

Neither the Error status nor the error message is stored: if you reload the Providers page or leave it and come back, they disappear even when the provider configuration remains invalid. They appear again only after the next save or test.

## Delete a provider

> **Note:**
> A BYOK provider cannot be deleted while it is selected in the [default policy](ai-policies.html). To delete the provider, first switch the policy to a different provider.

Procedure:

1. In the sidebar, under AI governance, select Providers.

If you don't see this page, or the controls on this page are inactive, your role doesn't have the necessary [permissions](roles.html#permissions).

2. In the provider card, in the upper-right corner, click ![Ellipsis icon](images/union.svg) and select Delete provider.

3. In the dialog, click Delete to confirm the action.

A success message appears in the lower right corner. The provider card is removed from the page.
