# Explore collaboration options

Sharing and collaboration can be crucial parts of your teamwork experience in Datalore. Read this topic to learn about your options.

## Sharing options for notebooks and workspaces

| Workspaces | * You can share: your own workspaces and workspaces you have edit access to * You cannot share your Private workspace, but you can share individual notebooks from it. |
| Notebooks | * Notebooks are shared automatically when you share a workspace. * You can share a specific notebook from your Private workspace. * You cannot share a notebook in a shared workspace with a user who has no access to that workspace. As a workaround, you can clone such a notebook to your Private workspace and share that clone with any user. |

## Sharing a workspace: access types

There are three access types you can choose when sharing a workspace from the user's Home page. Find the procedure in [this topic](share-workspace.html).

* View: most restricted access

* Edit: access allowing to edit the workspace

* Manage: full access that allows you to edit the workspace and manage access to it for other users

The table below compares View and Edit access types for shared workspace users.

| Action | View access | Edit access |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Share the workspace | No | Yes. When running the notebooks of the workspace, the owner's resources are consumed. |
| Create or upload notebooks | No | Yes. |
| Clone and copy notebooks | Yes. A notebook can only be cloned when opened in the editor. | Yes |
| Move notebooks to trash | No | Yes |
| Rename notebooks | No | Yes |
| View notebooks in the editor | Yes | Yes |
| Run or edit notebooks | The shared notebook must be [cloned](share-notebooks-from-own-workspaces.html) to the viewer's file system. > **Note:** > Attached files will not be copied. | Yes |
| Export notebooks | Yes | Yes |
| View workspace and notebook attachments | Yes | Yes |
| Change workspace and notebook attachments | No | Yes |
| Create and edit workspace database connections | No | Yes |
| Attach database connections to the workspace notebooks | No. Can only view the database connection list and respective database schemas. | Yes |
| Create and execute SQL cells for connected databases | No | Yes |
| View notebook environment variables | No | Yes |

## Sharing a notebook: access types

You can share a notebook from your Private workspace by generating a link for viewing or editing it. Also, you can invite users by sending an invitation email. Both procedures are described in [this topic](share-a-notebook.html).

You can choose from three access types:

* View: most restricted access

* Edit: access allowing to edit the workspace

* Manage: full access that allows you to edit the workspace and manage access to it for other users, available when inviting by email

The table below compares View and Edit access types for shared notebook users. The access is granted when sharing the notebook. The access to all notebooks is also granted when sharing the respective workspace from the user's Home page.

| Action | View access | Edit access |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Share the notebook | No | Yes. When running the notebook, the owner's resources are consumed. |
| Clone and copy the notebooks | Yes | Yes |
| Download the shared notebook | Yes | Yes |
| Rename the shared notebook | No | Yes |
| View the notebook in the editor | Yes | Yes |
| Run or edit the notebook | The notebook must be [cloned](share-notebooks-from-own-workspaces.html) to the viewer's own workspace. > **Note:** > Attached files will not be copied. | Yes |
| Download the notebooks | Yes | Yes |
| View the notebook attachments | Yes | Yes |
| Create and execute SQL cells for the notebook's connected databases | No | Yes |

## In-editor collaboration

Datalore allows you to track actions of your real-time collaborators working on the shared notebook. Find more details in [this topic](collaborate-in-real-time.html).

Use comments to facilitate your collaboration on shared notebooks. Even users with view edit can leave comments and respond to comments made by other collaborators. Find more details in [this topic](comments.html).

> **Note: Reports**
> Publishing your notebooks as reports is a major feature in Datalore and used to share your results with people who may be more interested in the outputs of your notebooks rather than actively co-editing them. Refer to [this section](report-builder.html) to find out more about this feature.
